Highlights

Tour Description

This is the perfect way to visit the Douro Valley Wine region off the beaten path.

We will pick you up in your accommodation and take you to Régua, from where we will start this amazing jeep tour on the vineyards.

This region has been shaped by human action since the roman times and in 1756 became one of the first regulated and demarcated wine regions in the world by the hand of “Marquês de Pombal” one of the most important figures in the history of Portugal. On the year of 2001, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

We will be crossing the mountains through the vines and having a picnic in a place with superb views. Make sure that you take your time to appreciate the twists and turns of this sinuous river and to understand a little better the traditions and rituals of the locals.

During the afternoon you will have the opportunity to do a Port Wine Tasting in a typical Douro “Quinta” and learn a bit more about Port Wine and its qualities.

By going deep inside the vineyards you will be able to feel all the intensity of this magical place, there are no doubts that this is a great way to know the Douro Valley – Unesco World Heritage Site!

Curiosities:

Nestled in northern Portugal, the Douro Valley stands as an exquisite testament to nature’s artistry and human endeavor, earning its well-deserved title as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Carving its way through terraced vineyards and rugged landscapes, the Douro River weaves a mesmerizing tale of tradition and innovation.

This breathtaking valley, famed for its port wine production, reveals an ancient winemaking heritage. Its meticulously crafted terraces, adorned with rows of grapevines, cascade along the riverbanks, creating a stunning patchwork that celebrates centuries of viticulture.

Beyond its viticultural legacy, the Douro Valley’s beauty captivates with every turn. Rolling hills blanketed with lush greenery, charming villages steeped in history, and quintas (wine estates) dotting the landscape create an idyllic setting that bewitches travelers.

Embark on a journey through this UNESCO-acknowledged wonder, where each vineyard, each bend of the river, whispers stories of resilience, craftsmanship, and the enduring allure of this magnificent valley.

Porto wine, a jewel of Portugal, embodies centuries of winemaking mastery nestled in the sun-kissed Douro Valley. This fortified wine, born from a blend of grape varietals indigenous to the region, matures in the cellars of Porto, infusing each drop with a rich tapestry of flavors.

Its creation is an art, a meticulous process that begins with the harvesting of grapes from the terraced vineyards lining the Douro River. Fermented with precision, the wine undergoes a transformation, enriched by the unique microclimate and soil of the valley.

Aging gracefully in oak barrels, Porto wine evolves, revealing its complex character—be it the sweetness of a Tawny, the richness of a Ruby, or the depth of a Vintage. Each sip is a symphony of flavors, a testament to time, tradition, and the expertise of generations of winemakers.

Sipped slowly, savored among friends, or paired with delectable desserts, Porto wine transcends mere libation; it embodies the essence of Portugal’s viticultural heritage, inviting all to partake in its unparalleled taste and legacy.
