Tour Description
The excursion begins with the climb to Pico da Barrosa (one of the highest peaks of the Island), along the south coast, on a road with a panoramic view over the central part of the Island. The first stop is designed to provide one of the most extraordinary views of the Fogo Lagoon.
The trip continues with a short walk along Caldeira Velha, one of the Island’s Natural Reserves, where you can enjoy a bath in a hot waterfall.
Stop in the historical center of Ribeira Grande where you will have the opportunity to enjoy the famous liquors produced with fruits of the island. Continue along the north coast, visiting the tea factory, unique of its kind in Europe, where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the tea plantation and the north coast, sipping a cup of tea. Ascent to the viewpoint of Pico do Ferro, where you have a superb view over the crater that surrounds the Furnas valley.
When you reach the Furnas valley, along the banks of the romantic lagoon, you can participate in the “”boiling in the caldera””, which will be served for lunch. After lunch visits the boiler area, with fumaroles and springs of thermal and mineral water where you will proceed to your test.
Return to Ponta Delgada on the south coast of the island.
On the way stop in Vila Franca do Campo – the first capital of the island – where you can visit the factory of the famous Queijadas da Vila and where can see the Islet of Vila Franca do Campo, natural reserve, and privileged beach area.
