The Northeast region of the Azores archipelago is a captivating and remote part of this Portuguese territory, known for its lush landscapes, diverse flora, and charming villages. São Miguel, the largest island in the Azores, encompasses the Northeast and is renowned for its natural beauty. Visitors can explore the iconic Nordeste municipality, which is characterized by rolling hills, vibrant green pastures, and dramatic cliffs that plunge into the Atlantic Ocean. The region is dotted with picturesque viewpoints, such as Ponta do Sossego and Ponta da Madrugada, offering panoramic vistas of the coastline and the ocean.
The Nordeste area is also home to the Ribeira dos Caldeirões Natural Park, where visitors can admire waterfalls, lush gardens, and traditional watermills. Hiking enthusiasts will find a network of trails winding through the verdant landscapes, providing an opportunity to immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature.
Tour Itenerary:
The day begins in the northeast by the north coast of the Island. The first stop will be made in Ribeira dos Caldeirões, where you can enjoy the magnificent waterfall, the ‘Véu da Noiva’, and visit the traditional watermills.
Pass through the pleasant village of the Northeast towards the magnificent garden that is the belvedere of Ponta do Sossego and later the belvedere of Ponta da Madrugada.
Lunch in the village of Povoação (where the first settlers of the island settled down) and visit its historical center.
Return to Ponta Delgada on the south coast.
